Research Gap Blog Post #3

Research gap concerning the relationship between news media and how Facebook users gather information.

The research gap I have noticed is that little research has been done on Opinion leaders on Facebook and their perception of what constitutes accurate information. A research article used in my literature review discussed briefly how those who identify as leaders of opinion consumed less accurate information than other Facebook users. There does not seem to be much  else on the topic, and this research is important because influential people can have a significant effect on the accuracy of presented information on Facebook. Also, opinions expressed by these opinion leaders may have a significant impact on the interaction that Facebook users have with others on the platform. Research based on interaction between news media and Facebook users has been done. Research based on interaction between friends and other Facebook users has been done. However, as far as those with significant influence on the opinions of others, there is little knowledge about the impact of these people on the discourse between news media and their audience on Facebook, as well as interactions between Facebook users as a whole.
